'65 318 poly carburetor rebuild?
are these carbs easy to rebuild? it's leaking and it is the original carb that has never been fooled with so i know it needs a rebuild by now. i have never rebuilt a carb before but it looks like a decently easy job since there are only 2 barrels and not a lot of moving parts. It's the stock carb on my 1965 Belvedere II, 318 poly/auto trans all stock. thanks. also while the carb is aparts can i do anything to it to make it a little faster?

It's not a hard carb to rebuild, just follow the instructions in the kit, and be sure you have the float set properly. But before you buy the kit, check the throttle shaft for excessive wear. If the carb is on the car, you'll notice a change in idle if you move throttle shaft around , while making sure you don't open the throttle any more. Or, just check for excessive looseness where the throttle shaft is mounted in the carb base. If it is loose and worn, much easier to get a rebuilt carb, then try to bush or repair the carb plate yourself. There's not a whole lot you can do to the carb to increase power past stock levels, best to leave modifications to the carb wizards. Better to find an 4 barrel intake and small 4 barrel, but it may not be too easy finding a 4 barrel manifold for a Poly 318 these days, good luck!

Offenhauser makes a 4-barrel intake for the poly 318. One of the mopar mags just recently did a poly engine buildup, there's probably some parts sources in the article.
