Hey, I have a 68 cuda and I'm going to be putting a new set of headers on it in a few months and I was wondering if any of you that have put headers on a 318ci A body could let me know what is involved with installing them, because I think I noticed that the centerlink on the steering goes right through the header so I'm guessing you have to take the steering apart, and someone I know even told me to pull the engine to do it, so if any of you could help me out I would be thankful.

It's not pulling the ENG. really. What is done is undoing the motor mount and tilting the ENG. And yes, the linkage on the driver side comes down.

hey rumblefish, you say you need to take off the drivers side linkage and tilt the engine, when you did it did you only undo the motor mounts or did you have to undo the bellhousing bolts also? and when you say "tilt" the engine I'm guessing you pick it up from the front with a crane so the engine tilts making it easy to take off the headers, right.

I have installed and removed the headers in my '70 dart 360 a few times. You don't need to pull the motor. You will need to undo the motor mount on both sides and jack the motor up. I put a block of wood under the oil pan and jacked it up with a floor jack. You will need to disconnect the centerlink on the driver side (from the pittman arm and the outer tie rod end). You do not need to undo the bell housing bolts either.

Depending upon which headers you have they will need to be dimpled in a few spots to clear the centerlink, idler arm and steering linkage. All of the headers except the TTI ones drop below the centerlink and will need to modified for proper clearance.
