i have a 70 Duster w/ a 292 purple shaft 360 that runs 7.5 1/8 mi. it has a stock fuel pump, Edelbrock 750 carb, stock clutch fan, 3.55 gears and a full interior, column shift. the car is the perfect sleeper but i want to improve the et. does anyone think it would really be worth the hassle to run elec. fuel pump, water pump drive? i don't want a race car that i can't drive.

My personal experience would say fuel pump, yes, water pump no. You might also want to run a larger fuel line and better filters, too. Good luck. Dennis

I would run a 3/8 line. That will be ample If the smaller one isn't.
The 3.55 are slowing you down. That P-shaft is large for that gear. A 3.91/4.10 ratio would really help alot. Although you didn't say your tire size. A size of 26 inch's would be about right. There not that steep. Your not just gonna do 90mph on the hwy If its an 8 3/4 rear, you can change them out in about hour and switch back to the 3.55's
Electric fans will free up a few more HP as well.
What kind of intake and exhaust do you have?

The electric water pump drive is race only and won't keep the car cool enough to drive on the street.

I have a similar combo: 360 (509/292), 3.55's, 2500 stall converter, 750 Holley Vac Sec, Holley street dominator. I haven't need the 3/8 fuel line, but it still may help, but I am running the stock fuel pump. If you aren't getting enough feul you may want to try the Edelbrock (I think) replacement fuel pump (non-electric).

Are you automatic or manual? A converter would help also if you are auto.

I have heard that an electric fan can free up up to 15 horses.

moparpro Can you share some more info on your car , a7.50 is quite an achievment for a full interiered car with 3.55,s 360and the 292 cam. Ive seen dyno tests where the electric vs. the mechanicle gave no noticeable improvement in hp.I guess what was gained in lost mechanicle energy was lost in the alternater load to run the pump. The water pump deal will show a gain in hp. The higher the rpm you run the hp gain . Now please share your recipe for your fast times to your mopar brothers.Sport

Sport, my 360 is running K.B.107 pistons w/ the block deck cut to zero for appr. 10.25 comp., i am using the lighter 273 rods, the rotating assembly has been balanced. the J heads now have 2.08,1.60 valves & were ported, polished by a friend in Memphis who has a 360 Duster running 6.90 1/8 mi., i am running a Torker2 intake which i have been told is killing me. the Edelbrock 750 carb is box stock. i have a Viper 9.5in. torque conv. the car is running faster than i ever thought it would, considering the carb & gears. i tried a set of 3.91s but the 60 foot time fell from 1.64 to 1.69 and the et. did not improve. the 9 in. slicks are borderline w/3.55s and going by 60 ft. times weren't holding w the 3.91s. Thanks for your interest
