Im looking at this 4.00 crank that is offered and would like to know what the concensus is on approaching this build-up. Would it be better to use a shorter piston in a 340 app, or a shorter rod? It looks as if the 351-C rod at 5.78 inches would be a perfect length, it is also only 10 grams off the 6.123 rod, both by Engle. I dont know the big or small end diameter of this Ford rod, but if both were smaller...? In going with the shorter piston, who makes them off the shelf? What prices are we looking at? I know the 360/408 kit is XXXX.xx but can it be done cheaper with production parts? How about a 4.00 +.040 chevy piston (cheap and light) My only other Stroker motor involvement was an "in house" KB piston 400/451 mill. Thanks

my friend and i have been reasearching this and found the pistons for around $500 using stock rods, i don't have an e-mail address for the co. but their name is Diamond Racing Products. the pistons are only offered in 4.030 and 4.070 bore sizes

I was told that with the stock rod the piston pin is getting dangerously close to the bottom of the bore, so I think that you should stay away from the shorter rod. What kind of journal size does the Ford have? Why not go with custom pistons and a 6.25 inch Chevy rod. They use a slightly smaller rod journal, and it is easy to have the crank turned down.
