Can anyone tell me if the stuff on the front of a magnum engine( alternator, power steering pump, water pump etc.) will fit an older engine? Id like to upgrade to newer parts and the serpintine belt

It works the other way around, so you could probably do it without too much trouble. Except for one thing: the Magnum camshafts are shorter, so the LA camshaft might not fit behind the cover. Plus, there isn't a mechanical fuel pump provision.

If you end up doing this conversion, post results!

I was thinking of doing this myself. The only problem I see with my swap is that the Mechanical fuel pump might not fit around the Dipstick, though i'll run a factory 318 Dipstick anyway

It should be a easy swap. Like K christopher said about the cam, forget it. Although I didn't think u were looking at the cam. There are rollers by crane & comp to upgrade with anyway.
Check the balancer thickness. Thats the only thing that might be differant. Do you plan on useung the old power steering pump? That crossed my mind. Will the hoses mate? Can you put the new pulley on the old pump?
Food for thought. Good luck

Actually, my point was that I'm not sure the LA camshaft will fit behind the Magnum timing cover. When the did away with the extra length of the camshaft (didn't need it since they don't use a mechanical pump), they may have changed the pump cover demensions (sp) enough that the longer cam would hit.

Just saying to look into clearance issues. You could aways saw the front of your camshaft off if it didn't work.

The magnum crate Motors have the longer LA cams in them so it should not be a problem.

The magnum crate motors also use the LA style timing cover and water pump. It isn't a direct comparison.

moparpro,

Is there a chance I could get information and/or pictures of your friend's Ram with the 440 and serpentine pulley setup? I've been looking for information on this for the last year. I am not interested in the March or Billet Specialties because of cost first of all, plus I'm looking for something more factory looking. I can give my phone number or email address for contact info if your friend is willing to give me some info about his setup. Thanks in advance.

Jim
