Default Synthetics vs oils

Are Synthetic lubricants really oils or contain any oil based substances? I am using Mobil 1 Synthetics in the engine, and rear end and will be switching to tranny fluid whenever. I was using these products from a purely automotive sense until 11 Sept 01 now I havbe additional incentive to stop Americas total dependence on the oil cartel. Any other thoughts or feelings on this subject?

You have to read the labels on some products. If it says synthetic on it, then it is. There are also blends of snth and oil as well.
I am using Mobil in the tranny now. It works fine.
Excat make up is beyond me.
