Hi, this is my first message on this forum.

I'm thinking of adding disk brakes to the front and wondered if anyone has experience with Wilwood conversion kits or any of the other conversions out there. I'd love to hear from you if you have!

I uploaded a small webpage with a few things about my car at:
http://blitzsports.com/racing/f1cs/charger.htm

Thanks!

p.s. I was going to change the gearing from 3.23 to 3.91 or even 4.10's but reading past posts on this subject on this forum helped me to make up my mind, so thanks again. I'll keep the 3.23's and get some decent brakes instead.

I GOT A DISC BRAKE CONVERSION FOR MY 63 PLYMOTH RACE CAR FROM A PLACE IN TEXAS. I CAN'T REMEMBER THEIR NAME BUT THEIR PHONE NUMBER IS 817-536-3843. THIS KIT INVOLVES AN ADAPTER FOR YOUR SPINDLE A GM CALIPHER AND A FORD 11 INCH ROTOR. IT COST AROUND $450. AND WORKS GOOD. ANYTHING WAS BETTER THAN 9" DRUMS I WOULD USE WILWOOD IF I WAS TO DO IT AGAIN. I DO NOT KNOW HOW THEY WOULD LAST ON THE STREET. THIS SET UP I HAVE IS PERFECT FOR STREET USE SINCE IT USES OVER THE COUNTER COMPONETS. COME ON..BE A SPORT SLAP A GEAR IN.YOU WANT BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE. JOHN

I recently did the Wildwood conversion. Works great . Make SURE that you get the rotors turned BEFORE you put them on. Trust me (and others)

Unless you have the money to throw away, I would find a donar E-body w/disc brakes. It is a simple ball joint swap to convert the B-body drum brakes over to disc. Pop the ball joints loose on the E-body and take the whole assembly along with the proportioning valve. Same prodedure on the B-body, remove ball joint nuts, pop them off, replace ball joints at this time and re-install assembly. This procedure was covered years ago in one of the Mopar rags.

Well I doubt that you'll ever find a E body in a wrecking yard (I haven't seen one around here for at least 5 years), but no need to worry, A body stuff is identical. 1973 to 1976 A body disc brake spindles and calipers are what you are looking for. Then use the 11.75 rotor and caliper adapter from a 1976 to 1979 B body like a Cordoba. This gives you the best possible factory brake setup. If you want to save 20lbs then use the adapters from Hershberger Motors (1-800-311-3945) to bolt on a pair of Wilwood calipers. The Hershberger kit uses the stock rotors and bearings for easy replacement, but saves a lot of weight by replacing the cast iron calipers with the lightweight aluminum ones.
