Default Cam questions/Performance upgrades

I dont know alot about these slant motors and have a few questions. First, is it possible to replace the solid lifter cam with a Hydralic version? #2 Is there a set of full roller rockers out there for are engines? #3 What is a good cam grind for these engines when I already have a milled head, headers, and clifford 4 barrel with a Holley 390? The car is a street car but I wanna haul some butt when the need arives. I have 3:55 rear gears and the car is about 3800 pounds. Thanks

Yes, you can replace the solid with a hydraulic, but it is a lot of work. You'd need the cam and lifters, puhrods, rockers, and you gotta change the rear cam bearing in the motor. On top of that, there are not many hydraulic grinds left any more for the Slant.

Yes, you can get roller rockers for a Slant. Cox Bros.-614/268-9920 or 9930 for fax.

For a grind, you would really need to consult a cam grinder. With a car as heavy as yours, you will need a lot of low and mid-range. I use a Racer Brown (260*/.450" lift) in my Duster (3600#) and even with a decent converter it is still not a real blaster off the line.

Lightbulb SL6 Cam Choices

I would say that you are better off just staying with the mechanical (solid lifter) cam.

As for choosing a grind, it's always a bunch of trade-offs and you want to get a cam that matches your combo of parts and driving style.

Go to www.slantsix.org and slantsix.com and use the search functions to get lots of info on what other SL6er are using. You will get a bunch of information so after you are completly confused, ask for some more detailed feedback on profiles that interest you.

Some "food for thought" a roller cam profile widens the power band and SL6 lifters are the same diameter as BB. Mopar / Hemi (.904) I have a 170 SL6 with a roller cam which will idle nicely under 1000 RPM and Rev to 7000! ( it starts pulling strong @ 2600)
