I'M HAVING TROUBLE ON CHOOSING THE RIGHT INTAKE .I HAVE AN OPTION OF USING A JETTED DOWN HOLLEY 750 DP OR A CARTER 625 AFB.MY FRIEND HAS A 72 CHALLENGER-340/727 AND HE CHOSE THE M1 SINGLE PLANE INTAKE, AND HIS CAR TEARS ASS!...NOT SURE OF HIS EXACT SET-UP THOUGH. SO I BOUGHT A M1 . ACTUALLY I BOUGHT 3 OF THEM AND NONE OF THEM FIT !! THE BOLT HOLES WOULD NOT LINE UP. THE BLOCK AND HEADS HAVE NOT BEEN ALTERED IN THE DECKING OR MILLING FASHION.NOT TO MENTION THE POOR CASTING JOB BY MP...SO SAD AND EMBARRISING TO THE FACT THAT THE AFTER MARKET INTAKES I HAVE USED IN THE PAST HAVE MATCHED UP PERFECTLY. I have not tried a Edel. perf RPM but I know you can not go wrong with the old Edel. LD340. Modified as per MP. As for the M-1 single plane it slowed my car down a tenth and 2-3 mph in the 1/8 with the same 60 ft times over the above. Modified the H out of it and now seems to work ok. Nice thing about the LD340 you can usually pick them up for 100-125. Cheap and fast not often that comes along

Damn! I bought an Offenhauser for my 360 and I can bolt it on but it has an internal vacuum leak. The crank case pressure pushes oil into the intake ports. I payed for a new manifold and now it will cost me $45 to $125 to get it milled to fit. If Offy had a website I would email them and tell them they can fix it and pay for shipping both ways!!! Yeah when pigs fly!

The best small block manifold I ever used is the Holley Strip (not Street) Dominator.
I'd take it over the M1 any day. It's a single plane air-gap race manifold with very direct runners. I haven't seen one in about 12years and don't even know if they still make them since Holley bought everybody and their brother (including Weiand)out. They were cast with extra meat in the runners so you could match to the oval shaped W-2 ports. It's a vicious looking chunk of aluminum, too.

You'll need at least 3.91's to use it though, 4.10 or 4.30's are better. I mainly used it on 7500-8000 redline solid lifter 340's, but it ought to work good on a 10.5:1 360 cause they'll make good torque on 7 cylinders (lol). If you have 3.55's I'd go with either the RPM or the old LD-340. Also the Weiand dual plane has big runners and runs as well as the either of them, it just doesn't look as nice.

Rugtrucker, have you actually pulled the intake off and verified it,s cracked, or is it just a gasket leak? Or is it so poorly machined that it won't seal- you weren't specific. Hell Awaits, try a Weiand or a Holley street dominator, I've used both on customer vehicles with great results, djs

I blew out all the oil in my van that never had the heads off. I put a bead of sealer on the rear and front and it never contacted the sealer. It also blew all the oil out. The rebuilt engine that is in there now my we had a hard time getting the bolts to line up. Is a Street Dominator a single plane? I know the one I have for a 383 is. I just sold it it gets shipped tomorrow. I think the manifold wasn't finished to spec. The Weiand would be cheaper but this is a r/v type application. I am going with a Comp 252H cam in my new motor. that is why I spent the money on an Offy. Are you familiar with the Dual Port? Seperate runners for primaries/secondaries.

I have run the Street Dominator (very small runner single plane) and the M1 several times each. The Street Dominator seems to do a bit better in making power, but has a lot of distribution problems, especially if you are running on the street. If you modify the runners and baffles to get the best WOT distribution, you are way off at cruise. If you modify to get the cruise and mileage the best WOT suffers. The M1 is only slightly weaker in power, but the equal length runners and 180 degree design, make for a much better running engine at cruise and WOT. Fuel mileage is about 2 mpg better with the M1 and the plugs always come out looking identical.

Hey guys,

Just want to clarify on the Holley manifolds:

The STRIP Dominator and STREET Dominator are two different pieces.
I have had very good experience with the STRIP model on a few pretty stout 340's in 2900-3000 lb Dusters. I believe on a 10.5 CR 360 it would work well providing you have 2800-3200 stall.

I have no opinion on the STREET Dominator; I haven't ever used one.

I beleive the Performer RPM was the best alround manifold in a magazine feature.
I am running an LD340 with Holley 650
DP. I was lucky enough to score mine for $50-Caandian at that!
It runs GREAT.

I've got the RPM & LD340 ready to bolt onto the 360 I'm building right now.

I chose the RPM as it seems slightly more aggresive then the LD340 (higher AOA in the runners), which would suggest that the mixture has an easier time getting down into the cylinder past the valves etc.

Once I test this setup out I'll be trying the LD340 w/o any other changes. Curious to see what the final outcome will be...

Hey, I picked up the LD340 for $75 CDN and the RPM for about $150 I think, decent deal I thought.

Thumbs up

I just finished reading a 340 buildup in MOPAR MUSCLE. On the dyno, the RPM AIR GAP was good for 25 HP over the factory cast iron manifold.
To: Hell Awaits-original post-I too ran the "Hemi Grind" cam you are running in both my 360 & 340. In reality this is 60's & 70's technology. A friend talked me in to trying an "ULTRADYNE" cam close to the same specs, but a modern dual pattern type cam.
With no other changes what a different motor it was with this cam. Much improved response, idle, power, and mileage. Just my 2 cents worth. If your interested in the specs I can get them for you.

I was wondering if you guys with the LD340 have modified it as per the old MP directions? I did about the same modifcation to a Edel. per. RPM on a small block "chevy" with canfield heads. Worked great!!! car was stronger from 3500 on up. Also ask Edelbrock about why some of thier dual planes have a dropped center divider and was told they do that on some manifolds to help the Idle quality. I also dropped the divider on my 360 2bbl. tow truck.WOW letting those cylinders see both barrels, what a difference.

I HAVE A 1971 PLY SCAMP WITH A 360 AND THE SAME CAM AND PISTONS THAT YOU HAVE. I CHOSE TO USE THE WEIAND STEALTH. IT'S A LITTLE SPENDY, BUT IT HAS GREAT THROTTLE RESPONSE AND HIGH RPM CAPABILITY. MY CAR HAS RUN 12.304 AT 110MPH LAST WEEKEND AT A TRACK WITH 1600 FOOT ELEVATION. IT ALSO WILL IDLE ALL DAY LONG AT 750 RPM IN GEAR. I USE A CARTER 625 AFB. GOOD COMBINATION.

HOPE THIS HELPS, IT IS A REAL STREETABLE COMBINATION.

DENNIS
