Question

I'm putting Cragar SS wheels on my `69 superbee. 275/60-15 rear (BF Goodrich recommends 7.5 to 9.5 inch wheels)
and 235/60-15 front (BF Goodrich recommends 6.6 to 8.5 inch wheels)
I dont want the rims to appear to wide for the rubber and I dont want the tires to look like balloons on the rims. What rim size would you recommend for these tires.

dualaxel,

For a balanced look I would go with a wheel width that is similar to the tread width of the tire. Firestone lists the tread width of their tires but bf goodrich doesn't so you could use a similar firestone tire for comparison. I put 225/55-16's on a 7" rims on the back of my 67 cuda. The tread width of the tires is 7.0 and they have that balanced look you are looking for.

Hopefully you can also get someone to reply that actually has the setup you want.

Keith

I run the same tire setup on my 65 Sport Fury. I have 7's up front and 8's out back. Has a real nice look.

A good rule of thumb is to have the wheel width be one inch narrower than the section width of the tire. A 275 tire is 10.8 inches wide so a 10 inch rim would work. Not sure why they recommend 9.5 for this tire as that seems too small. A 235 tire is 9.25 wide at the section so a 8 inch wheel would be a good fit. Since these are 60 series tires you are looking at you can drop the wheel width another 0.5 or 1 inch without a problem.

On a 275/60 Using 10" rims are really pushing it because you have to use a bead blaster for the bead to seat. (yes I work at a tire shop so I should know) I have them on 10" rims it makes em look wide but they are stretched a little too much, a 9" rim they fit the best on. Ive fit em on 7's even tho they dont recommend it but it works they are kind of balloned, an 8" rim works really good. So if you had a choice and 8" or a 9" rim is the best. Now with the 235/60 a 7" rim makes em ballon just a little, an 8" rim makes em.. almost right but its just a little tiny bit too wide but they work. If you could actually find an 7.5" rim you'd be laughin. If ya had a choice get a 7" because then if ya ever nip a curb the tire takes the grunt of it not the wheel. so 7's and 8's or if you can get 9's are the best combo.
