Default More 360 Cam Questions

I am rebuilding a 360 to put into my 73 Duster. The bottom in is basically stock with a mellings high volume oil pump, windage tray, new rod bolts, clevite bearings, stock pistons with speed pro plasma coated rings. Heads are "J" castings, 202 intake, 160 exhaust stainless steel valves. I'll probably install a Edlebrock performer Rpm dual plane with a Holley 600, or 650. Tranny is a 727a. Rear is a 8 3/4 489 housing with 355 gears. I am a Ford convert, and this is my first Mopar rebuild, gotta love it! I need advice on a cam. I heard that the Hughes dual pattern cams are "the shit", in a small block Mopar. Is this true? I want something with good idle qualities, and strong midrange. I noticed 2 cams, the HE0914 .458"/.470" 204/212, and the HE1923 .489"/.504 214/223. Has anyone used either of these cams or can recommend something else. Thanks.

I have heard alot of good things about Hughes. Never run there cams though. Other makers of cams worthy of looking into are the new line from Comp Cams, Engle, RacerBrown and Ultradyne.
Cams are very personal in choice. I like the second unit listed. The specs listed will give what you want. With at least a 650 cfm carb on top.

I am going to be using a huges cam (HE3038AL) with about 9.8:1 small block 360. My combo is real similar to the one that Hughes Just built. They have a true 9.5:1 with the HE3038AL a 750 CFM carb up on a Air Gap and pumped out about 440 Horsepower with well over 400 ft lbs of torque. I plan to hit about 450 with the bumped up compression ratio. I have researched a lot into cams and found that the hughes is probably a better cam than that of other manufacturers because it is matched to the .904 lifter profile. So I would go with Hughes. Hopefully this cam will perform as I expect it to! Good Luck! Email me if you have problems or questions!
