Carter Carb decoding
How do I decode this Carter carb? It has the following two numbers:
- 8867 (stamped on the horizontal surface at the back of the carb) - 834SA 3412 (side by side on the vertical surface at the front). There is also a '92' inside a star shaped stamping. |

Look on the front left mounting ear only. That will be the part number, the rest are most likely casting numbers. What kind of linkage does it have (universal, Mopar, etc) that will help you narow it down some. carbkits.com has an excellent crossreference table that shows hundreds of OEM carbs part numbers and the cars they came on. If it is a 9000 series (doesnt look like it) then it is an aftermarket carb, no direct cross reference. The part number is usually 4 digits and a letter ie. 6488S.
