Question

Shift at max. TORQUE or HP or some degree of comprimise.
Just had a Transgo shift kit installed, I want to make the best use of it. Some say shift at WOT others say manually shift at peak power. Any thoughts?
Also at what RPM is peak torque and peak hp made. My 5.9L wil twist to 5600RPM.

When racing you shift to keep it in the torque range. If 5600 is your limit then shift at 53 or 54 so you dont hit the flat spot. HP & torque?

My engine produces max.tq @ 3200rpm and max.hp @ 4400rpm. Why shift @ 52-5400rpm isn't that my flat spot? Should I shift @ 4400rpm at max.hp?

I'm new to this performance so please be patient with my questions.

Regards

First, how do you knwo the peaks. Sales Literature? With the computor change the power band changed. We try to take the drag cars about 400-500 above peak HP. just a guestamate for you would be 5000 -5200. seat of the pants and a little playing should tell you. some vehicles also like to be short shifted out of first ie at a low rpm.

Cuda367,
Since my truck is a automatic I can't short shift it without installing a full manual valve body. I'm not against doing this but I would need a floor shift to make it work properly.
Any other suggestions to try?

Thanks,

herbj.... I would recommend finding a dyno shop and find out where your power band is. I would shift at the point the next gear will fall into the power band (ya gotta know your gear ratio in each gear).

herbj your truck is pretty much stock the max out put on a 5.9 is 4800rpms so you should shift at 4900rpms. the stock cam will make you loose hp and tc after 5000rpms. the pcm will cut fuel and timing at 5400rpms i race my 5.9 all the time and shift at 5500rpms.look here to see what i have done http://home.talkcity.com/ThePits/rm_indy/S-Cindy.html thanks cmyindy
