Default CAT products

My older brother is getting into bracket racing and we are building a low $ car to be ready by March 02. He has been buying popular brand name parts to build a 409 small block that we plan to twist to only 6000 rpm. My question is: What is the story on CAT Products Steel SFI approved harmonic balancers? I am not experienced with this brand and have not seen any used in this part of the country.

Tell me the Good and the Bad.

Billy

I traced these parts as being made in China. I'm pretty leary of anything made in China. The metallurgy there seems to be crap. They might be OK if they use steel made somewhere other than China and then machined there. Too risky for me.

I have a CAT-alog and there products seem to be top notch. You cant make an SFI Damper without stringent tests being performed on it (SFI 29.1, 18.1 for dampers) . Their AISI 5140 Chro-Mo cranks are warranted for 36 months/36000 miles/1500 hrs as their AISI 4340 steel cranks. Their 4340 and 5140 rods are 24/24/1200 hrs. All other products are 12/12/500. They do alot of Chevy parts but they do make a nice SFI Mopar damper. I run one and it is a nice piece. Offshore or not, the labor is done on the same CNC machines, and the metal is rated. The catalog says Aluminum heads are in the works, although they dont say what app, most likely Chevy/ford.

Default CAT alog - Is that the real name?

My brother had already ordered the CAT SFI ballancer and it came in yesterday. It looks like it should stay together on his little old 406 (not 409). I might even get one for my 318 that I am putting together this week.

Thanks for the information.
