Default best carb & manifold set up for 318???

ok, I'm looking to replace the stock 2bbl on my stock 318, and I was wondering the best combo of carb and manifold. I was thinking about a road demon 625cfm on top of an edelbrock performer RPM manifold. Any proven hot combos out there for the SB's??? Also not that I can aford it, but would a 6-pak to much of a good thing on a 318? Would it bog it out or anything bad??? thanks

Asuming your 318 is pretty well stock, go conservative. They are very easy to overcarb. I wouldn't go more than a 600 cfm (Holley model 1850) and use a dual plain intake with a low rpm rating like idle to 5000 rpm. A 450 Holley might even work better but cost a lot more than the base 600 cfm unit...........djs

The Best set up for a mildly built 318 is the Edelbrock performer manifold and a holley 600 (0-1850) carb. The ports on the RPM manifold are to big for the 318 intake ports on the heads. The RPM is better suited for 340/360 heads. After you buy the 600 carb, get a trick kit cause you WILL have to change squirter size and the pump cam. The trick with the 318 is not to go overboard on induction and cam. A slightly warmed over 318 will put a heavy car i.e. challenger into the low 15's high 14's same motor in a dart, probably low 14's.

I agree with the other boys but you can also consider a used 500 carter and one of the older edelbrock intakes ( dual plane),we have a 69 Dart with this combo and get good mileage and performance.

I agree. Edel performer intake, small carb. 600 cfm MAX!
