Question

I am upgrading my 72 318 auto 2 bbl Satellite
to a 4 bbl. This is only a daily driver with performance and driveability in mind.
I picked up a 1970 340 cast intake.
I need a BOLT on carb.
What Carter carbs will bolt on . I would
prefer a thermoquad. My second choice is a
Holly . Prefer both around 600 cfm
I could also use the model numbers .
Thanks in advance
Fred..

Both the AVS (about 600 cfm) and the AFB (about 750 cfm) should bolt onto that manifold.

It was actually pretty popular to replace the smaller AVS with the AFB back in the day.

I have this set-up on my '71 Demon currently, but I am getting ready to replace it as I am following the 340 rebuild gojng on in Mopar Muscle for the past few issues.

Of course I will still keep it handy.

I just finished reading the Holley or Thermoquad posts.
For my application as a daily driver never to
see a drag strip, Which would be a better choice ?
I am a strong beliver in the Keep it Simple
method, and don't touch it if it works.

Thanks in advance again
Fred..

Either is fine, but if the smaller AVS is already working for you, stick with it.

The 340's respond very well to big carbs, the one I'm putting on is an 800 cfm unit (Edelbrock).

A small AFB or AVS of 600-625 cfm max is good for the 318. A Holley of the same size as well. The T-Q will work if you tighten up the secondarys enuff.
The '70 , 340 intake has a squarebore, right. Use the AFB-AVS. A slight tune down of the carb is all it takes.
The T-Q will need an adapter.
