Gear Ratio: I think I'm trouble
I recently jacked up my car and spun the wheel around one complete time while counting the number of times the drive shaft turned. Well the drive shaft turned between 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 times. Does this mean the my gear ratio is between 1.50 and 1.75. Does this the right way of finding out the gear ratio? And if it is isn't this a very low ratio?

If I recall correctly, that means you have an open rear end and not a suregrip. Multiply by 2, to get the correct ratio. Most likely a 3.23:1

Charger1970,
When you spun the tire did the tire on the other side rotate in the oposite direction? An open rear end will do this. A sure grip will spin both tires at the same time. The open rear has a spider gear that is a factor of 2. If the drive shaft rotated 1.75 times then you got a 3.23 open rear. |

make it easy.. either push the car, and count rotations, or get somebody on the other tire, and spin both at the same time. trying to guesstimate isn't going to do you any good.
