Engine ID Help
I have two 440's I'm trying to ID and could use some help. The local dealership has been less than helpful. The first one is not in a vehicle, so I can get at it easily. On the right side, the casting number is 4006630-440-6, with 11-19-74 above it. On the front, top of the block, to the left of the distributor it's stamped 5T440EH, and I found a stamp on the RF head that says A9.
The second one is in a truck, so all I have is 6T440?E from the front of the block. Does anyone know where I can decode this, what these codes mean, or am I looking in the wrong places for the codes on the blockand heads? Thanks! |

4006630-440-6 is a 70's 440 block casting number
11-19-74 is the casting date. Since it's such a late casting date it makes sense that it's stamped as a 75. (5T440EH) 5T=1975, 440=CID, E=Cast Crankshaft, 6T440 on the other block means its a '76 440. Hope this helps... |

Thanks! That tells me exactly what I wanted to know, I was lied to and neither engine is what I was told it was. So much for the 67 magnum and 71 police interceptor engines I thought I had bought. Live and learn, I guess.
