Default Overall best intake for RB's

Lots to chose from,M1 , RPM, Weiand Team G,Strip Dominator etc
WHICH ONE DOES THE TEAM THINK IS BEST OVERALL FOR UP 6500 RPM BACK TO BACK TEST REPORTS WOULD BE INTERESTING AS WELL.

From what I have been reading around the boards, the RPM is the best. Also, the Holley street Dom. is worth a mention here as well. A low single plain intake that holds it own dispite being about 30 years of age.
The (single plain) M-1, Team G and strip Dom. are made for racing and are best suited for flat out speed. There RPM bands begin late and rocket past 6500. Use these intakes for the track and not everyday drivers. (Not that they can't be used for everyday driving.)

I use the m1 intake on a few engines and like it !! it beat the team G and holley that i tried in the past.....I just got a new edelbrock rpm and i hope it will be as good as the magazines have been saying.... hell most 440s don't go over 6.000 anyway, so it should work...Lee.....

The old Edelbrock Tarantula or Torker works very well too.

Some different ideas. The Indy Hi-rise Dual plane. The B1 with stock port adaptors. A stock port cross ram to be available from Mp second quarter of next year. Also, Edlebrock is coming out with a Hi-rise Victor for RB in feb. '02.

Have not tried many different manifolds. Have tried a Team G and a Holley Street Dom. The Street Dom. was about 2 tenths faster. Have a tm-7 that I am going to try next season. Have had a few people tell me that they work well. But I was told the same thing about the team G. I guess the timeslip will tell.

I just changed my intake from a M1 with a 750 holley dp with a one inch spacer to: a RPM and a 950 holley HP and a one inch spacer.... Let me tell you it has a bunch more bottom end power!! and seems to pull hard to 6000 !! The m1 might have a little more power above 6000 but most 440s never see much above 6000 anyway ... i would go for the bottom end over top end......Lee..

Lee, it's most likely the extra grunt is being supplied by the bigger carb, not the intake. It would have been a good comparison to put the 950 on the M-1 and try that first......djs

Sport....I havn't ran it yet. I should fire my motor for the first time in about 3 weeks. But, Chuck Senator of MM (muscle motors) says in his book that its the intake to use on a bracket/hot street type motor if you can't fit an M1 single plane (the M1 is alot taller) under your hood. He says the M1 is a little better though....I just wanted it because it has a duel pattern carb flange and the Torquer II only accepts the square bore carbs without an adapter.

Lee, it's my guess the extra low end grunt is indeed coming from the RPM at least in part. Brad's dyno results credited the RPM with 25 to 30 lbs. ft. more torque on the bottom end and in the previous magazine tests the RPM was quicker in the 1/8th and virtually tied in the 1/4.

Stoga, since i first reported this, the word now is MP has scratched plans to re-pop the Max Wedge Cross Ram. Latest is Dick Landy may be offering one. But none for the stock port wedges.

I did read in this months Mopar Magazine that a Max Wedge single four is in the works and that they are havng a "sale' on the iron Stage III Max Wedge heads--$879-I beleive- for assembled pair! check out at www.manciniracing.com

I would pick the RPM. In the BB shootout with the 440 it made almost 50 flbs more than the torker. Friend has one on his .509 cammed 440 and it hauls out of the hole. He ran some 11.9's @ 118 spinning the tires. It is just a basic 440 with 906 heads.
