Unhappy CLICK noise driving me NUTS!!!!!!!!!!

Hello guys!!!

I am having a slight problem with my 2WD D.
Everytime I brake, or the D bounces slightly from any road imperfections or bumps, I hear this "bump" or "clank" noise coming from under my feet.(or so I think)
I thought it was the leaf springs but if they were the leaf's, then the noise would come from the rear, and I am POSITIVE its the front. Also, with the D parked, I pushed hard on the front bumper so the suspension would compress, and clank, it would do it again, so it is the front. I DO NOT have torsion bars, since the D's with torsions have had these problems. What else can it be!?!?

IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

Also, it wont happen when turning, and I did have the balljoints replaced when the D was new. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hey Uggster,

Maybe you can give me some of your BS advice?!

BTW guys, if I were to race a 2WD stock 4.7L D with my modded D, which has a 5.2L, FM40, Filter, 180 stat, plug wires and a ported TB, who would win. Assuming that we both have 3.55 rears and just the driver with no passengers.
Thing is a buddy got smoked by a 4.7L D and his D is a stock 5.2L!!!

Thanks!

Check the shock bolts, I put some shocks on my S-10 Blazer several years back, the top nut worked its way loose and it would rattle. Other than that, check for loose or rattling anti-roll bar mounts or loose suspension parts.

A modded 5.2L would probably beat a stock 4.7 IMHO.

Default Update!!!

Kevin,

I just got from under the truck and the noise is comming from the right front suspension area. I am not sure but I might pin-point it to the coil spring, shock or tie-rods. The other parts seemed tight. No ball joints were leaking also. And it does it slightly if I push the front of the truck lightly and if I push the front hard, the noise becomes harder.

Thanks Kevin!

It sounds like it could be the ball joints, it's pretty common in dakotas. Mine went at 60,000 kms, the tip-off was clunking over bumps & creaking on the turns.Unless you're still under warranty, don't get them done at the dealership - they refuse to sell just the ball joints, you have to buy the whole assembly. Up here in Canada, that worked out to almost $1200 for parts alone. And those parts do not have grease nipples. I got mine done at a reputable shop for $760 parts & labour, all Moog (good, with grease fittings) upper & lower.

Hey Ferny:

Here's my BS advice for the day, just for you. Follow the advice you already got. It sounds like you may have ball joint problems again. You did check the shocks, didn't you? As far as the racing, allot of times it's the driver that makes the difference. It's called the freak-out factor. If your freaked at the get go, you can have a hard time catching up.

So Ferny, how's it hangin with you. Still to many hoties for you? I mean, I know that they scare ya, cause ya want me to fix ya up with my 1.5 year old baby girl. At least you said you'll wait til she's 18. Poor Ferny, affraid of the big girls. How much is it worth to ya, to go out with Aleasha?

I'm really gonna give it a try to get the headers on #3 this week. It'll probably the last chance I'll get before the snows start flying. It's gonna be cold here this week. Ole Ma Nature finally realized that it's November, and she's gettin the temps down to where they're supposed to be. It's been real nice here for November. It's been in the 70's.

Later Lil Bro
