Default Ultradyne .586 or .597???

I need a suggestion on which Ultradyne solid cam to use. I have a 451 with Edelbrock heads that will have a light port job. Compression should be in the neighborhood of 11:1. It has an M1 single plane w/850 demon. 3,500 stall and 4:30 gears. This will be in a 3800 lb car. I want to run 11.50s or better. Anyone have a suggestion on which cam to go with? Also, has anyone used the .586 or .597 cam from Ultradyne? How did it work? Thanks.

I am running the 586 solid (260@.50) In my 70 rdrnr with a 431 and Indy sr heads. I am running a dynamic 4500 with 456 gears. Th cam makes a lot of power (read torque) I installed it at 104 not 102 and I am glad of that because I would not be able to hook the car on leafs. My motor is 12.1 and I have run a bunch of 10.80's with it.

hey JANDJ, are your Indy SR heads ported, or are they straight out of the box? Is the body on your car all steel, or is there any fiberglass panels? Just curious since our cars should be around the same weight. What intake/carb combo are you running? How high do you rev your motor with this cam? I'm curious what the power band really is on it. I'll be keeping my shift points around 6500 or so. I was wondering if this cam would support mid or low 11s in my Charger, and obviously it should. Thanks for the reply so far.

The sr's are bowl blended and gasket matched, more gasket matched, the blend is kind of lame just a quicky cnc deal. The car is all steel ,with a glass hood, I am runing an M1 with holley 950 hp carb, I shift at 6500 and go through the traps at 6700 rpm, The car weighs 3525 with me in it. Hope this helps. I might be inclined to go a little bigger but remember bigger isn't always better.

SWEET Roadrunner JANDJ! I wish I could get mine to launch like that. One more question on the .586 cam ... how is it for streetability? I'd like to drive my car 150 miles or more/week. Thanks for your help. I think I'll go with this cam, as it should easily meet my goals.

I never drove it on the street. I would ask ultradyne, also if you are 11 something to one you will go through a lot of racing fuel running that thing on the street!! as it wil not go far on a gallon of gas

I ran an NF57 in a 383 stroker all around Omaha in a 67 Coronet and it is a great cam but I am think this is the .582 lift cam not .586.

You might think about going another route and that would be ahving a custom ground cam,one just for your combo, for more info email me and I will tell you more about it but I will say that I just did this for a stroker small block in an abody cuda and it's a great street car, even better so than the coronet with the ultradyne.

PS,if you see a yellow and black notchback 340 cuda running around with scoops on the hood thats mine

I use the .613 UltraDyne with un-ported 452's with the big valves, and I ran a 11.79 on the first pass in my Demon.I would think the 586 would do the trick.

Hey 440, I've never taken my car to Scribner but go to watch a few times a year. I'll definitely be there to race a couple times next year, but I'll probably go on the Friday nights. I can't recall seeing your car before. Ever seen a purple 70 Charger, pink 73 Cuda, or orange 67 Coronet? I know all them guys.

Ricky- I raced a 440 pink cuda from bellevue this fall on a friday night race. If I recall he was kind of arrogant, but a very nice car. He ran a 13.10 and I ran a 12.14. Ill look for you this spring as I will most likely still be running friday nights until I get my car all set up. SEE YA LATER

Yeah, that's the pink 'Cuda I was talking about. Arrogant, huh? Never heard anyone say that about my DAD. He seems to get along with everyone I know, but I guess everyone has their opinion. I'm sure you'll see me up there sometime this spring/summer. There won't be too many first generation Chargers to search for.

Ricky, sorry about that, he might of been having a bad night, because when I went over to talk to him about his car he was under the hood in the staging lanes, maybe his mind was somewhere else. I probably just read him wrong.(believe me, I am sure im not the most friendly guy to be talking to when my mind is on my car either) Well anyway, very nice car!!!

Not a problem 440. He may have come off wrong. I know he wasn't having the greatest of nights because his car wasn't running right nor was it running what he wanted it to. On those days, we're all pissed off. Anyways, I'm sure I'll see ya sometime next year. Just look for the young kid (I'm 19) with a red 67 Charger.
