Default Dvorak Machine

I was wondering has any of you out there had any dealings with Dvorak Machine in Waldo Fl.

If so, how was the service?

How good were their products (mainly machining mechanincal work and such.)

Are there any other Mopar experts down here in Fla that I could take the heads to?

The reason I was wondering is because as I have previously posted in other threads I had a compression problem with my 383 and fould that I have a set of big block 906 heads that need a valve job (one exhaust valve is not seated properly)

I was thinking, since I have the heads off why not get a Mopar expert to recondition the heads properly with a competition valve job.

Any thoughts would be helpful.. Thanks

i've mostly heard good things about dvorak except it can be timely and costly. big daddy don used to have a machine shop. not sure if he still does but i had a buddy that had a 340 built there and it was very stout for a mild motor(10-1 484cam). but there again it wasn't cheap either.

I race with Dan a few time a year he is the man when it comes to wedge motors.... he can get more power out of a stock set of heads than anyone i have ever met..... Other than dan i would use dwan's mech shop in clealwater fl.... Matt is his head man and has done loads of mopar heads for me and i have never had a problem.....Lee....

It really all depends on what you want done.If you are after a basic 3 angle valve job and surfacing,I'd start looking at what is closest to you.I'm not in any way knocking Mr.Dvorak at all.He is good at what he does and isn't that far from me,but I have a local shop here do my heads to my specs. It's cheaper and I have total control over what gets done.

I had my block machining done at Dwans...they did a good job..reasonable cost. I had my heads done by Nick Wilson at Compuflow. Dwans even ground my crank for 90 bucks...pretty good price, since I spun the #3 rod bearing....I was pleased.

I've had Dwayne Hagle/Racing Products in Ocklawaha, FL (towards Ocala) do all my work since I started in IHRA Stock in 1999. Car runs great, records, class wins, etc.

He also bracket races a Duster in Gainesville and sometimes Orlando.

Just a small shop that does good work, he knows his stuff and pays attention to detail.

Thanks for the replies. They are very much appreciated.

I thought I would take advantage of my situation now since the heads are off the car.

With my car I plan to run it at some of muscle car shootouts for fun. Granted I know the car is a 383 and 440 six pack or hemi will blow it into the weeds in stock form.

But I am just trying to have some fun and see how well I can get the 383 to run with the stock parts (including cam). The car has already been a 14:70 with 3:23's and 14:41 with 3:91's.

I have seen one guy at muscle car shootout go 14:10's with a 383 69 Bee but I think he was running a TTI 2 1/2 H pipe exhaust and electronic ignition.
I still have the original style non mandrel bent 2 1/4 exhaust with hemi mufflers and point ignition (I will upgrade the exhaust in time as funds allow)

Back to the heads, I am looking for someone who has lots of experience with stock eliminator motors since there is no porting aloud which would kind of fit in with what I am trying to do.
And since I have lived in FL for short time the only person I knew could do this kind of work was Dvorak. But I am glad to know there are are other choices as well. ( No offense to Dvorak)
I am just trying to be careful where I spend my money.

Keep the suggestions coming I appreciate them all..

Florida_70Bee,

Mopar Muscle just did a hop up on a stock running 383 in a 71 road runner for their December issue. They took a stock 383 running about 160hp at the rear wheels and bolted on a pair of edelbrock heads out of the box, a comp cams XE274H cam with lifters, a set of Comps Pro magnum 1.5 ratio roller rockers, an Edlebrock Performer RPM intake, a Speed Demon 750 w/ vac secondaries, and a set of tti headers and 3" exhaust. The end result was around 350hp at the rear wheels. If you are looking for a mild hop up this combo is right up your alley and it will definitely hold it's own witha stock 440 six pack car or maybe even a stock hemi, depending on your gear choices!

Dvorak machine built the axle in my 68 Cuda back in 89-90 and it is still going well.

Don"t forget to get hardened seats for the exhaust valves. The guy that built my Cuda didn't and I had to have it done in less than 10,000 miles.

70Bee, Don't automatically assume that your 383 will get dusted by 440's and Hemi's.We built 383's for many years using mostly factoey bottom ends and ran very well with them. The 383 in my Road Runner can run 12.70's and the bottom end is factory Mopar with a 284/471 lift cam,383 Torker and 750 Holley and headers.I just retired the 383 in my Demon last season and it was running 11.59 with a 284/484 cam and set up pretty much the same as the 'Runner. It can be done and without a lot of cash!!
