I dont know if anyone remembers me, but i have an 87' gran fury(318). Originally ran a 15.10@91, and was looking for more. well i eventually put in that new converter(3000-3500) ran great. replaced the 600 performer carb with a 750, 2" carb spacer(4 hole) and a hilborn. this thing was one hell of a beast after that. was eating up mustangs left and right. well tonight was the night to see what she would run in the 1/4. was hoping for low 14's, high 13's. opened the exhaust, had the slicks in the trunk. was running great. on the way there heard a slight tapping noise, figured it was an exhaust leak problem coming back to haunt me or a valve tap. pulled over and the noise stopped. didnt know what to do, figured i'de just go the rest of the way to the track and look at it then. well it made it most of the way there and about 2 miles away from the track it stumbled real bad. pulled over quick. took off the drivers side valve cover and saw something you just dont like to see. my new(2000 miles on it) smith bros. push rod had broken.on the #1 exhaust valve push rod, the cup for the adjustable rocker arms had shattered. son of a b***h. had the have it towed back to my house for $108. well i guess thats the price you pay for going fast. hope to be back out there soon. thanks everyone who helped me earlier.
