3.58" stroker?
Is it possible to put a 3.58" crank (P5007257 with 318/340 mains) in a 318 block? Maybe a better question would be, would the combination be worth the effort? Trying to find a rebuildable 340 block has not be successful, but 318s are plentiful, and the crank is around $315, which isn't too bad. Plenty of big block stuff is around, but it seems that the circle track boys prefer the small block.
Does anybody make a piston (with the right wrist pin location) for this set up? Custom pistons are expensive! One more question. If it is possible to put this crank in a 318, would a rebuilt 360 be better than this stroked 318? |

318/360 Crank
I think the biggest problem is the pistons. You'll need a piston with a compression distance of around 1.67"-1.70". Most 318 pistons have a CD of 1.74" or so. If this is a low buck engine, I think TRW used to make some low CR truck pistons that might work. You would still need to add valve reliefs if you're running a big cam.
