Headers for Indy SR heads
Is anybody running Indy SR heads with a set of 1 7/8" x 3" headers for a '71 B-body??? I am changing to a set of these with a new cam this winter (custom ported heads from bare castings by SD-Concepts and custom grind cam) and cant find a header that wont hit everything in my engine compartment. TTI offers a 2" step header for the Indy SR's, but I think those will be too big for my combination.
any advise would be helpful.... |

I have heard rumor that 99 buck hooker headers will fit with a few dings....I run Headman 2" race headers on mine....

Are you running a low deck or a tall deck?? You can get the Hooker 2 inch x 3.5 to fit on a low deck with about a half a day's mods but forget them on a tall deck!!! (read "mods" as big f****n hammer)

I should have mentioned that I'm running the tall deck (440). I have a set of 1 3/4" super comps now that Hooker basically told me to get lost when I asked for a refund 4 years ago after I had tons of problems. Their reason was that I already installed them. Well....duh. How else was I supposed to find out that the tube hit the #3 plug boot, is only 1/4" from the #8 boot, is only 1/2" from the passenger side shock tower, hits the steering link on the passenger side and required serious radius'ing, is 1 3/4" lower at the end of the collector on the passenger side, and hits the driver's side torsion bar. Five major flaws and they said that they could not accept them on return. I would hate to give them more money but if the $99 ones do the trick then I guess I'll give "the man" the money.
Cdignition...I like that dash but I have to run a stock appearing dash for my class. Otherwise I'd order one up and anodize it black for that incognito look. |

I know what you are talking about with the Hooker 1.75s. I had a set on a set of 915 heads and I put on a set of 2 inch hooker's, the bigger ones fit better than the smaller ones, figure that one out????

thanks. I looked at the TTI ones but I dont need a header that big yet or even after I install the supercharger. 2" to 2 1/8" step headers are huge based on the cam I'll be using. Thanks though.
1 7/8"x3" is what I'm hoping to find. |

The only headers I know of that fit the Indy S/R heads on a RB block are the TTI headers designed for those heads and the Headman Race headers designed for the SR heads. I think both are 2" primary tube to better match up to the larger exhaust ports/valves in the SR heads.
I think the Hooker supercomp headers fit if your running the shorter "B" block? I have the 2" Hooker supercomp headers on my 451 (stroked 400), but with Brodix B-1 B/S heads (they also have raised exhaust ports and re-located spark plugs.) |

The headers that you are using with the 915's should work with the S/R (stock replacemant) Indy's. Will not work with the Indy 440-1 heads.
