Question Autotrans... Help Please

I recently traded a '93 D350 extra cab for a '96 3500 extra cab. The problem I'm having is the trans shifts too quickly and it also makes 2 lunges when you put it in drive, also when you take it out of drive back to neutral. Of course I didn't notice this until I had traded. Both trucks are auto's. Never had trouble with the '93 but it didn't have the lock-up convertor. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

It sounds like the rear clutch applies, slips and then grabs. The rear clutch is applied in all forward gears.
My 2001 will grab 3 times some times, it is like 3 bumps, but not every engagement. When it does, I think wow what were they trying to do?? Of course they don't even know.
Then they build it so the only gear switch/ apply that is firm is reverse!! The engineers in charge of this are dangerous and should be supervised.
My ranting is over now. Thank you.

it sounds like you may have broke the first gear sprag, causes two lunges because the band has to acctually hold first gear. The first gear sprag is natoriously week with only 4 or 5 rollers if I remember correctly. I hope not for your sake.
good luck.

It cannot be the sprag. It has to be working to go forward. The rear band does not apply in drive only in manual low.
Anyone else?

A double engagement could be caused by the rear clutch if it has too much clearance.
And the rear band comes on in manual low and reverse.

Hope this helps
