within the next 2 weeks or so, my 70 Convert Newport should be out with me in Phoenix. A while back I posted that I tore up the converter and the flexplate. As a temp fix I got one bolt in the only useabl hole on the converter just so the movers can get the car on the truck. Well now since the tranny had a leak to begin with, and it has to come out to swap converters, I wanbted to know what I should do. Take the current tranny to a shop to rebuild it, or get a aftermarket tranny, like from summit. If so which after market manufacter should I go with. Also anybody know of any good tranny shops in the Phoenix area?. Also any recommendations for what to have done? It is a 70 Convert Newport that I am looking to hit high 13's. (at least a 13.9 once)The wife and I cant wait till the car get road worthy again . Thanks

Bob

ERRR I would say a good shift kit should do the trick right? I am also going to stick with a 2500 stall 'verter. It has a Performer intake and the cam also runs out at about 5500 rpm. A normal rebuild with a like a stage 2 shift kit would be good right? Just looking for some second opinions.

I would fix the one you have and make sure that it is a TransGo kit only.

Check with Doug's Performance Transmissions in Mesa AZ. 310 E Southern Ave. 480 964-3832.
these folks do off road racing and other "extreme" automotive sports.

If you can rebuild an engine, you can rebiuld an automatic tranny.
