Default Which Viper is best?

One day I will own a Viper!

It will probably be used.

It will probably be a few (many?) years down the road. But I am always keeping my eyes open for good deals.

What would be the best one to get?

Any to stay away from?

I know I am just dreaming, but I would like some opinions anyway...

Thanks in advance.

Well, they are all strong but if you want the most powerful, you definitely want a Gen II car. Now, that engine has been in production since 96 but it has undergone a whole barage of different cam profiles and computer changes. They all net about the same performance at the track but the difference is in the idle. 00 and newer engines have a super smooth idle. We have affectionately named them creampuffs. hahahha They also have cast pistons and the prior models have forged pistons.

I hope this helped a bit. If you have any specific questions, throw them out and I can try to answer them.

well those pistons are cast BUT they arnt cheep cast pistons, they are Kieth Black Hyperutectics. A Very Light weight and as far as pistons go, they offer the tightest ring gap of any piston type. Thus they allow the best piston seal. The Forged pistons may be a little lighter but they expand and contract more. Allowing more impurities into the combustion chamber.
The one down side is you dont want to supercharge or Nos inject an engine equiped with a set of HyperUtes...

U got that right. I vowed never to use a hypereutectic piston ever again. I blasted two of them in my supercharged camaro. I go for the best, that is forged.

How is a 73 Dodge van a performance project? LOL
a Friend of mine(that is leaving for texas today)has a 1981 Van 318 and 4 on the floor Dana rear end..and its all STOCK. I always wanted to Hotrod that Beast. OR just take an automatic equipped van and make the thing Mid engine, Like a IO Boat. Put a Hump in the van behind the drivers seat...Pulling the front wheels up on take off probably scare the crap out of someone in the other lane...LOL

I like to be different.

I think it will perform pretty well. Here's the plan (most of it is already finished except the motor).

340 resto block with Muscle Motors 416 kit @ 9.5:1 CR. Probably a Holley list 3310 (750 cfm), ported Edelbrock heads, 1 3/4 headers, 2800 stall MP 10" converter, 727 with TransGo TF-1 kit and Gear Vendors under/over, 8 3/4 rear with 3.91:1. Lowered 3" front and rear.

I've stripped the inside, (not like there was much there to begin with) and I weighed it a 4000 lbs. with me in it (205 lbs.), so figure 3800 lbs. is no heavier than some of these B-bodies out there. I know the aerodynamics thing is an issue, but I'm working on something special for that (top secret..HEHE).

If I ever learn to drive well, I don't think a run in the high 12s on a nice cool day would be out of the question. And if it can't, I'll just get another one and throw in the biggest Mopar engine I can find.

Actually, I once saw a website where a guy actually had an 11 sec time sheet for a 77 Tradesman.

Mid-engine...I like that idea....

it wasnt a Van, it was a Viper(really Brad,...really), the only difference is that it had the cargo space enhanced (greatly). And that causes some acceleration and cornering issues however.
