Alright, when i first bought the car it came with a bad speedometer... well i had this car for 2 years no speedometer and now i got a cable from a junkyard since as far as i ahve seen you just cant buy brand new.... Well I installed it and gave it a test drive. It worked perfectly on the dot till i reached 40mph, its screeched and screamed and bounced between 40 and 50mph and i was goin about 60 to 65 and it still read between 40 and 50....but i came back towards home and the same thing happened again going at only 25... Whats wrong?..
Also I am not much into wires and electronics and my instrument panel dash light no longer works, it worked for the first 2 months i had the car running and thats it... Is it a bulb? A fuse? a box or sumthing... PLEASE HELP ME its a pain not knowing how much gas you ahve at night or what your cars temp is!!! |

Get a book on car electrical systems. There very handy. 1st...see if the fuse is shot. Then use a test light on the wires. When it no longer lights up, theres your brake in the wire. Cut and rewire as needed.
After market gauges are good to. As far as the cable, any tight bends, did you spray it with anything to lube it? ....Hint...graphite Thats what I've seen used. |

The speedo in my Duster did the same thing. I pulled the cable out of the housing and coated it with vaseline. It's been quiet for three years now. Dennis

Hi
The speedo it sounds like its the cable in a bind or its the speedo its self the spring in side is bad ,You may need to get another speedo. Now your lights are {1} bad fue {2} bad curcite board if all your light bulbs are good its the board,You would have to take out the insturment panel and put another one in it. Its not that bad to do. You have a plug that gos to your panel unplug it then undo your speedo cabel and then the screws and it all will come out, The printed curcet board you will see it ,take out the lights then voltage regulator its a plug in,then replace your curcet board. OR just take the car to a auto wire shop and have them do it. Hope this hopes you { ITS NOT THAT HARD TO DO}Your head light switch will have to come out also push down the button in the back of it and pull on it then take the ring off and the light switch will come out. UNDO YOUR BATTERY UNDO YOUR BATTERY |

I suspect that the speedo cable you installed was dried out. You need to get some lubricant for the cable. I recommend something which has graphite in it. if there is room enough you can pull the cable off the back of the speedo and apply the lube right into the housing. Pull the cable out of the housing at least halfway so the lube will get pushed down into the housing when you reinsert the cable. Good luck. If the noise persists after driving for a day or two you will have to change the speedo itsself. If so, turn the mileage to 000000 and you can pretend you have a new car!!
The light for the guages is most likely a bulb burnt out, but check all the fuses first. Most instrument clusters have small fuse, 5 or 10 amps. |
