'01 R/T Cut-Off Date (for PCMs)
I have heard several dates thrown about for when they stoped puting the performance PCMs in the R/Ts. I've heard some of you mention that it's either before 10/00 or that it's after 10/00 that the PCMs were replaced. My '01 was built in October of '00. That doesn't fall into either category.
In my manual it says to use at least 91 octane fuel, but according to someone (Ron, I think), they kept using the same old manuals after the switch, but that they added an addendum (I didn't see any addendum with my manual). I don't have the sticker by my gas inlet that says to use premium fuel only either. Does anyone know how I can check out whether I have the performance PCM or not? If I don't, and since I "almost" have an '00 model, can I upgrade to the old PCM (I know that they don't make them for the '01s and newer)? Are there any other differences in the R/Ts besides the PCMs in the pre 10/00s and the post 10/00s? Thank you for any input you have for me. |

You are in an interesting situation, Mopar says that it's 10/01 and later that get the new "lesser" PCM. Still, I would give Mopar a call and have the check it out via your VIN. You wouldn't want to damage your engine going with <91 RON if you have the "good" unit.

If you find out let us know! I have a 2001 R/T Dakota that was built in October of '00. |
