Default Whats a safe tranny temp to run

Gents, quick one here. MY tranny runs about 140-150 deg. I dont think this is bad or anything but would like to know that is safe or normal for a street car. I currently run a tranny cooler with a 727 with reverse manual valve body and a 2800 hemi stall with 3.23 gears. I currently changing gears to 3.91's and may also change my converter to a 3500 or so.
1...is my temp safe now with my current setup and
2...going to a 3500 with 3.91's, do you think there will be a big
change or problem
Thanks..............................Dave.

I would think that is very good. Most of the newer cars and pickups have a cooler in the radiator tank. The water temperatur is 200 or so, and that is supposed to cool the transmission fluid? Most published figures are around 180.

Very good info John. I was pretty sure about the limit and knew it went downhill fast after the recommended max. This is where the synthetics are supposed to shine.
Looks like you're in business Dave, just remember that a little time at stall heats it up at a fierce rate.

That is very good info to have (the chart). Which is why I use a BIG cooler, don't run the fluid thru the rad cooler either, that's more for cold weather use. With a trans brake on, the trans can build several hundred degrees of heat in a few seconds at high stall speeds.......djs
