I've got a choke question. Which choke is better, the factory automatic choke (1970) or one of the electric assist chokes. If the electric assist choke is better, how do you hook one up in a '70 Duster?? The car has a 318 engine, and will be getting a 4bbl transplant soon (thermoquad) I want the easiest starting design.
Thanks in Advance |

Your best bet is to use a holley 4-bbl. with the electric choke kit. Easy to hook up and work very well. djs

COLORMECLONE: Is that '74 Choke an electric assist one?
I'm not particularly fond of Holley's, because you are constantly tuning them, and replacing gaskets. I picked up the good T/Q for a bargain price. Say, anyone have any 360 4bbl kickdown linkage??? ------------------ Goldduster '70 Duster 318 2bbl http://duster.svhost.com/duster70?REC=0 The Plymouth Duster Homepage http://duster.excelland.com?REC=0 |

gold, yeah its the stock setup that bolts to the heat crossover on the intake manifold.i never connected the electric assist wire and it works just fine.
in your quest for the 4bbl kickdown,i used the complete setup from an F-body 4bbl.it fits perfect.i got it at the dealer, but that was 10 years ago. i hear what you're saying about holleys.i've worked on them long enough to hate them. if you need help on jetting your TQ for the 318 lemme know. |

If you are always having to tweak your holley it's either a bad one or you dont have the right one for your application or you don't know what you are doing with it. (NO disrespect intended)I've tuned LOTS of TQ's, AVS's, a few Q-jets and a bunch of Holleys over the years, the holleys have always performed best, and once set up properly will work for years without even putting a screwdriver near them. Just my experience......anyone else? djs

Hey Golduster, I agree with you on that one! The holleys I'm talking about are the Hi-perf versions that were never installed at the factory! The style you had trouble with are built by holley, but to a certain manufacturer's specs. They are usually on the lean side so they will meet fuel economy and smog regulations, and are hard to tune for max power if larger cam, headers, etc. are added. Cheers, djs
