Default magnum intake with 302 heads

Has anyone found a way to use a magnum intake with 318 La heads? I want to convert my 86 318 roller to MPFI

More work than feasible. The magnums intake have diff intake bolt angles. They are straight up and down. Like a Hemi. The LA's of course have the angled bolt holes. Read in a mag that bolting on stock mag heads is roughly 50hp. Dunno how true, but........ I would swap on a set of magnum heads. From what I remember about the swap is that you need to get AMC lifters (.904) and hollow pushrods as the magnum heads oil through the pushrods as LA engines oil through a hole in the block that matches a oil hole in the older style heads. Both heads use same exhaust manifolds. Hope this helps

The problem with going to magnum is these AMC lifters.

I want to keep this a roller motor

OOPPs. I read in a rather recent mag about a 600 hp small block with new indy heads. The only trick part were the lifters. They had a special coating on the bottom. Theses lifters can be retained even if the cam is swapped out! Also they can be used in place of roller lifters. Not what you what but..... an alternative. (although it completely negates keeping in keeping with your original plan) In place of this, it would probably be easier to redrill the intake. as long as the ports line up. Other than that, I think that is all that is needed. However I would swear I saw a LA style intake with injector bosses, Another thing, you could also have a M1 single for the LA's, modded by having injectors bosses welded to the intake.

Trouble is that there are no current single plane intakes with 318 ports, I understand that both edelbrock and holley used to make them but not now

This is real easy! all you need is the heads(complete), pushrods and most importantly, LIFTERS off a magnum. it should be a strait swap. magnum rollers should be identical to yours, except for the oiling hole deal. get everything but the magnum's shortblock and even the stock mpi manifold, if you want to, and you're ready to roll. This is a hell lot easier than messin with goin to a flat tappet cam. A virtual no brainer.

what magizine was that article in I had it but can't find it or even remember which one that was in? what month and year too?
