Default what do i need for a 360 magnum???

I can get a 360 magnum for about 1200, from a wrecked ram. What all do I need to do to it to use it in my 70 Dart? I am not keeping the power steering pump, AC compressor. I am going with a v-belt system vs the serpentine. Will I need the water pump thats there and the alternator or can I just use the ones I have on my current 318? I am ditching the 318....piston #7 rings are fried, burns oil, and I think somewhere I got water in my oil. heheh

Oh yea, all the wiring and fule injection stuff is there too. The guy also has a few other complete magnums for sale. Anyone interested? 1200-1500 pending on whats still on the motor.

The truck water pumps spin backwards as opposed to the crate motors due to the serpentine belt going under the pump on a truck and a V-belt going over on a crate motor. The front cover is different so I am not sure if a older pump will bolt up.
I have a Magnum Crate motor in my 74 Dart and it was a boltin swap. You will need different motor mounts (spool type) I believe because your originals in 70 were pad type. I think Schumacker has the mounts.

Spool motor mounts? I am not familar with those. The motor doesnt have the holes for the bracket that connects to the engine mount like on the rest of the small blocks??

Thumbs up

I thought all Magnum motors had the stock-type ears on them.I know mine does and all the ones I have seen do. I would think you could use your stock motor mounts unless someone can correct me on this. Also, with my Magnum motor I used the old style front cover and water pump and it works fine.

Magnum motors have 2 sets of motor mount locations. The trucks use a mid-motor mount and a "car" would use the front ear mounts. The mid-mounts are like a 70 SB that uses a pad type mount. I have pictures of them but Photopoint is down. I will look for them and maybe this will help you understand what I mean.

Here is a spool and pad type mount. This is from the Schumacker page.

the magnum motor will use either mount. it's your k member that is going to decide it. I've had my crate motor on spool and pad mounts. both work just fine.

The balance of the motor is different then an LA block. So, if your torque converter has a weight on it, it's goign to have to come off. and either weld on the new balance kit that mopar sells, or buy the blance plate that B&M sells. it's about $70 but, fit's a wide range of torque converter sizes, and is SFI rated if that's important to you.
