i can not get an answer to this either. What I have seen is a 4.25 inch stroke chevy go several years as a street car with several trips to 8000 rpm. Am tempted to go this way myself. Pontiac boys at H.O. Raceing say Bill Miller rods are best for this. Claim to have a delivery trck with 200,000 miles on the same B.M. rods.

Maybe also check Eagle rods as they are a supplier for Mopar Performance.

I've always HEARD that the aluminum rods demise is hastened with decelerating under load- using the engine for a brake.
I've never ran aluminum rods on the street, but my buddies have, with no problems. I would stick to the better steel rods for a street engine, unless there is a reason you need aluminum rods. Or... contact an aluminum rod supplier like stick4406 said. |

I built an alum rod 440 and did talk to bill miller, he said " they will have no problem running 100,000 on the street, this is if you warm motor before running it hard and never over heat the oil" I put 750 runs on mine and a few street miles before i built a new motor... the old motor is in a friends car that he drive daily...and that was 4 years ago........Lee.

rods.....
Lee,what would be the hypothetical advantage of aluminum rods in street motor? I haven't been paying attention to price, but I seem to remember seeing eagle H beam rods for around 600.00,which I didn't think was too bad for the product. Are the alum rods comprable in price?Common sense would tell me that the aluminums would be lighter by 2/3 but they look bigger dimensionally....Is this to achieve the same strength?I could also see where that may equate into a problem using them with stroker crank where there are already lower clyinder clearance issues.....At that point would it be worth it to spend the money on lightwieght pistons and eagle rods,I'm sure the combo would reduce reciprocating mass..............Always learning, thanks, stick

I think you should go with the eagle rods myself, the alum rods are about 800.00 and change... yes they are lighter by 200 grams i beleave, but will have some clearence problems do to the larger size of the alum rod....A lighter bob weight well make the motor spin up quicker but will not make more hp, just make hp faster.....Eagle rods and ross pistions make a very good combo and should last you a long time with no worries....Lee....
