Default 360 magnum Ignition

How does the 360 magnums setoff the ignition? Is it like regular small blocks? I would like to use a MSD distributor and 6AL box. Is this possible? Also, will any flywheel work on a magnum?

Default 360 ignition

Crane Cams is having a special with the HI-6 box and coil for as much as the MSD 6-AL box for $188. I just installed this box today. I already notice an improvement. They don't make a distributer though. I hjave mixed MSD and Crane and they work fine. Call Jegs up and get a price for this combo. You won't be sorry. Read the specs on the Cane box verse the MSD. Good Luck!

The truck Magnums distributor is just a trigger. No advance since the computer does the timing with the cam (distributor) and crank (flywheel/flexplate) as triggers. The flywheel and flexplates are different than the older SB's because the balancing of the motors are different.

I know the regular 360s are balanced differently than the 318/340s... Are the magnums balanced the same way as the 340/318s?

With the dist..I should be able to run an MSD distributor then...with the MSD box and using the computer.

I am going down tomorrow and putting a down payment on my 360 magnum complete with EFI.

A Magnum motor be it a 318 or 360 is balanced differently than a regular 318/360/340. Are you planning on using all of the wiring and the computer off of the truck? I am using a MSD distributor with the advance locked out as a trigger but if you run the stock computer you will also need a crank trigger. It is located on the passenger side of the block near the top where the trans and motor bolt together on a stock setup. It triggers off of the flywheel/flexplate. You may be able to run a MSD crank trigger for the signal, not sure. The block is machined for the factory style trigger as well as the trans bellhousing. Hope this helps.

I talked to the guy last night. It has the fly wheel on it for a manual tranny. I will be using the stock wiring and computer.
