Lightbulb remote mount faceplate

has anyone ever remotely mounted a faceplate. I am sick of how hard it is to see the faceplate in the day. I also wanted to do something different. I am thinking of running the faceplate into a custom built overhead console and the main part in a custom built floor console. Can this be done, how hard, and do you think it will help my problem...

Thanks,
Tim Althoff

can be done-yes
how hard-depends-are you electrically minded-soldering and running wireing
would be pricy if you had someone do it-it would be alot of work

get alot of small guage wire
connect the pins on the deck and the faceplate
make sure you get them right and the solder job is done perfectly
you do not want any shorts

I have seen some done-quite kewl
I checked out an install from gr8ride-of colurse now they are not up
it was a chevelle-put the HU in the glove box I think
the faceplate was in an overhead console
you wouldnt see it if you didnt look-and who looks up

as for helping your cause
just imagine the final project

well, i keep thinking about the end result (if it works)...it should be really cool! Well i will have to do some research and find it. Thanks for the help.

I picked up some CAT5 networking cable and am now just waiting for a few extra hands so i can test it out without actually soldering it yet...

If i remember corectely i saw it done in a black car about 3-4 years ago in a audio mag....he had it mounted in the rear view mirror.

Well i will keep you guys posted when i get to it...probably not until spring...

well, i have many other projects going on! i am swaping my intake and a few other performance goodies this next week. Then i still am trying to swap my seats (posted on the dakota forum) to a 4-door 2001+ sebring / stratus grey leather seats. Once i find some and figure out how the hell to install them i will start making my custom floor console and overhead console. Once i do that then i will mount the HU in the floor console and the face plate in the over head. Then i still need to rewire the entire interior and paint all the parts. I can't do that till it warms up so i may drive with a rough finish for a little while.

All that, and i go to school full time (16 credit hours) and i work 30-40 hours a week. And among all that i still have a social life. Soooo.....i am very busy and i take my time to do a professional job! that is way it is going to take a long time.

I will post my progress on my webpage as they become available.
