Checked my Valve spring seat pressure today. Most were at 120 lbs., 4 at about 110 lbs., and one was as low as 100 lbs.
From what I've read I believe it should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 128-130. I'm sure somebody here knows. The cam has 290 advertised duration and with the 1.6 rockers, about 580 lift. ------------------ My Own Private Adrenaline Rush |

Bryant; You are right on the money for the preasure, how old are the springs? If they aren't to old you can shim them to get the correct preasure but if they have been well used you are better off to get a new set. Contact me at Tothperformance@csonline.net Thanks Bruce

We really need more info. Most performance hydraulic cams like about 120 lbs on the seat and a spring rate around 300-320 lbs/in, ie. at 0.500 lift the pressure would be 120+0.5(300)=270 lbs. However, solid cams are way to variable to make a generalization and you should check with the cam manufacturer for recommendations with your specific grind.

The cam was manufactured by a company called Race cams Inc. out of Ft Lauderdale Fla. They are now out of bussiness. the only specs I have are the advertised duration of 290 and the lift is 550. Then I have 1.6 rockers too so that brings it up to 580.

Im looking at the cam card for my Hughes 3844 cam, which is close to the same lift/duration as yours(within 1 degree, and .005 on lift)..spring requirements are this....
Closed/Seat 150# @ 1.900" Open 350# @ 1.300" You could use these same springs, im sure you would be ok....the Hughes Part number is 1106. I wouldnt run the motor too hard if you only have 100# on a few springs...seems really low....Production tolerance on spring loads is 10%, anymore deviation, replace spring. |
