Default anyone using comp cams high energy cam 280/480 in a 383

hi i was wondering if anyone was using this cam and what thoughts anyone had on it.does it have a nice lope to it and a good street cam with a little strip action? i have a 68 383 2 barrel that i am going to be working on and am thinking about this cam with the rpm intake, holley 750 vac. secondary ,headers. just the basic bolt ons. i also have a 727 with manual valve body and deep pan and was thinking of maybe an 11 inch converter with 2500 stall.sound like a good street combo? will be going with 3.55's or 3.91's. will be going in a 68 sport satellite.thanks for any info

Not familiar with the cam but shouldn't be too radical for your car. Your combo sounds like a good start but I would recomend a 10" converter (actully measures 10-1/2). Jump right in and get your feet wet!

I don't use that exact cam,but use the 280 Mopar cam in my 383 Road Runner.I'm very happy with it,runs very well, and can hold it's own against most street cars.My car is a 4-speed,but when we ran it with a 727,3800 Turbo Action converter, and 4.88 gears,Edelbrock Tarantula(TM-6) 750 Holley double pumper,1 7/8 Hooker headers(2" for racing),stock bottom end,it ran 12.19 in Atlanta at the bracket finals in 34 degree weather, now will run 12.70's with 4.10 gears.

I think you may want to look at a Hughes cam,or the comp people make a Mopar blueprinted cam that is better than Mopars original.

I use a Lunati 275 .477 I like that cam. I also have (er had) a 2500 stall with 3.23 gears. Good crusier. Its in a big old C-body.

I am using a CompCams extreme energy 274 in my 70 Charger/383 with basically the same other goodies that you are planning too. I am very happy with it; it is strong from idle to 6100, and works well both with my 3.23 and 3.91 gears. Use the search feature of this website to find other comments about these cams for 383's.

I am running the cam just belor charger500guy's in my 383 super bee and so far i love it. Comp Cams eXtreme energy cams are highly recommended by Mopar Muscle as well as hughes cams. They ran a couple of 383's and a 400 with the cam charger500guy is using and they netted excellent results. I have not been able to drive mine much, but it idles nice and it has a real nice pull when I rev it. It seems to love the midlevel RPMs and it'll pull to 6000 easy with the stock rockers. My build is a little milder than charger 500's. 0.030 over 383 with KB pistons, ported 906's with oversize valves, CC XE 268H cam, HV oil pump, holley fuel pump, Edelbrock Performer intake, 1-3/4" headers, and a 770 Holley Street Avenger carburator.
