Default 4" to 4.5"....redrill or not to redrill?

Guys, a couple of question on this subject.
1...If I wanted to have the axles redrilled to use a 4.5 wheel,
who you recommend to use.
2...When they do this, do they weld and plug then redrill or just
redrill and weaken the setup?
3...If I do this, will it be safe. 69 barracuda apx 3000 lbs and
low 400's HP. 99% street duty.
4....would prefer not to get different axles unless absolutly
necessary since I'm pretty sure I need to start looking at
brakes also....true or false?
5....Should I just consider getting a 15" rim and have them
possibly put in a 4" pattern or am I stoned for thinking of this?

thanks.........Dave

For my drag car , I went and got Moser Axles and the spool , went to the big bolt pattern and the bigger b-body brakes. I am in the process of putting it together.
If you want to stay with the small bolt pattern , and need some special wheels , let me know , I might be able to fix you up. Ralley or Stock steel.

thanks duster2 for the info and offer. So far I havent fully decided on going with the ralleys or not yet. I also dont know how or if this can be done but If I went with the ralleys and stayed with my current setup I would need something on the line of a 14" thats 8"-10" wide with a 4.5 backspacing. My guess is I should stick with playing the lottery but I figured I'd throw it out anyway. That is the main reason I was looking to go to the
4.5 pattern since there are tons of these out there. If I dont have to I'd rather not. Just to make you really laugh I've seen the mopar Ralleys that are either fully chromed or polished.
Let me know .........thanks........Dave

Ralleys or steel wheels in the 4" bolt pattern, 14" or 15" in the 8" wide is no problem. But with a 4 1/2 backspace , I think you will be into the spring , unless you have moved them in a bit. Also the tire selection in 14" is getting pretty slim , more sizes in the 15" area.

Duster2, how bout giving me a holler off line. I'm interested in the 15" ralleys and have numerous questions. When you email me, feel free to give my your number and best times to get a hold of you. You're obviously knowledgable and I do have some questions for you. Thanks......Dave djonescnc@aol.com
