Question serpentine drive on pre-magnum

I have not had a chance to get to the wrecking yard to check yet so...

does anyone know if I can swap all of the serpentine stuff from a magnum out of a dakota or something onto a pre magnum engine? DO you know if the timing cover will swap and will the pulleys line up with my balancer? I have an 1982 (according to the casting numbers) 318 out of a motorhome if that makes a difference. I have to swap timing covers because of the funkiness of the one from the motorhome. I know the magnums do not have a fuel pump boss and I am planning on using an electric fuel pump anyway. But would I be able to use an older timing cover with a reverse rotation water pump, my balancer, and the serpentine pulleys and all?

I have looked into this myself and I can tell you for sure, the reverse rotation water pump will not line up with the old style timing case cover. I have not tried the magnum timing case cover on a pre-magnum block, as I don't have a pre-magnum block to check it against. The easiest way would be to check either the gasket part numbers or just go to an auto parts store and ask to see both gaskets. Two other things you will need to address is if using a magnum timing case / water pump, is the water pump inlet is in a different position, and the fuel pump eccentric on the cam must be removed (or it might contact the cover) and be replaced with a flat washer of the same thickness. Of course, you are on your own with the alternator, PS and A/C pulleys, as the one big bracket on the magnum won't fit a pre-magnum block without some modification. HTH
