Before you go buying a new motor- from the states or anywhere- since your mechanically inclined- pull the motor and check it out. Alot of times it's something simple like dirty contacts or worn brushes- or take it in to a motor repair shop and have them look at it. It's pretty tough to kill an electric motor- and you will probably save quite a bit of money too. I had an electric motor that open and closed the headlamp doors on my 79 MAgnum- The dealer told me the same thing- $375.00 for a new one and theold one was junk. Well it turned out that all it was - was $1.89 worth of new brushes and about an hour and a half of my time. I've had this sort of thing on my boat too- trust me the boat is much harder on the motor since it sits under water most of the time- and that was a rusted shaft and a little bit of clean up- instant $450 bucks saved.
PS. Engines are fuel powered- motors are electric powered Hope this helps |
