Default REAL 1/4 times

I've read the numbers from the magazines and from the Dodge website and such, but I wonder, what are REAL drivers getting out of stock snakes?

I always wanted to line up with on in my old 94 Z-28. I ran mid to high 12s in it. Was wondering how I would have done...but the only street driven example around here was driven by a 55 yo women, and she wouldn't give it any throttle...

I can't give you first hand experience because I don't race any of my cars. I can tell you from being around a lot of Viper owners that most run in the 12.0 to 12.6 range. Most experienced drivers can run in the low low 12s and a hand full of lucky dogs that run at sea level get into the 11s. The fastest I have seen in a bone stocker is 11.77 at 121 mph. That is just a freak. I think most of the GEN II cars with decent drivers will run 12.0 to 12.2 or so. Traction is a serious problem because of the 500 foot pounds of torque. It takes a good driver to exploit all of the power available to the driver. Most GenII cars dyno around 420 to 430 horses at the rear wheels. Yup, they are underrated from the factory. I am dynoing my GTS and my Z06 Vette this Saturday. I hope I pull some good numbers. Both are bone stock.

BTW, I have seen some viper drivers run mid and high 13s at the Viper owners invitational. That is some serious driver error. hahaha Trap speeds usually hover around 118 to 120 mph in stock fashion.

If you get a chance, check out last months issue of GM High tech magazine. They actually tested a 2001 Z06 against a 2000 GTS. The Z pulled a best of 12.2 and the viper nudged into the 11s. This was in 90 degree heat. Its a great article, especially coming from a GM publication. hahaha Btw, they also mentioned that earlier in the year, they tested an RT/10 in 75 degree weather and it pulled a 11.87. NOt too shabby for a bone stock car made to run top speed that is equipped with a 3.07 rear gear.

speaking of 1/4 mile times. I have recently talked to a Borg Warner Engineer about the Viper trannies AND He said the BW unit (and its second gear) is good for 400 or so Drag racing starts before 2nd typically goes the way of the Dinosaur....anyone else heard anything like this??

TimberwolfPB:

I have over 100 passes in my "stock" 94 (GenI) My frist pass was a 12.8@113, my best pass was 12.1@115. I have had many passes over 12 but now far the most part I run low 12's. On a trip down to TX I only did a 12.7(2nd grear gone), but run 12.7 4 times in a row.

Maxwedge:

No, but I did loss 2nd with the stock tranny with 100+ run before any problems, and I was "learning" I don't think this is to bad.

That was with mxx3's I had a 1.7 60', most of the time I get 1.8's.
Next year I will run D.O.T. drags, I will need new half shafts though.

My buddy has a 95. At one point, he only had glass packs (yup you heard me right), smooth tubes and K and N filters. He ran 12.2s. That is a strong Gen one. He has a BTR nitrous kit on it now. Its pretty darn quick.

Hey Norman:

I have to disagree with you. Remeber that Mike Brunton in a completely stock GTS posted a time equal to this. Good driving helps BIG time. There was a rumour of one Viper GTS doing an 11.58... now that was a freak run!

I can tell you that Mike's car did not put out any unusual dyno numbers.

Just an FYI.

That is awesome. I hope mine puts down some good numbers. I am dynoing it tomorrow.

I think some get too caught up in 1/4 mile times and forget that we all race at different altitudes. Makes a huge difference.

I don't know if I will ever take mine to the track. Maybe some day.

Norman:

I agree with you that Viper owners tend to build dyno and 1/4 mile queens. That's not my style. I like driving mine on a road race course, because it's more of a challenge and the rush lasts longer than 12 seconds...

Have a happy new year!

Brad

Eng:

Mike's GTS went the same route as his bike (Hayabusa). I heard that Mike is replacing the GTS at some point real soon. Have you heard anything from Mike (I know that he is up to his ears trying to get the software business off of the ground)?

If you see him, tell him Brad Chang from Manhattan Beach says hi.

Happy new year everyone.

Brad

Chatting with him online right now. He says it has run a best of 11.40 at 126 mph.
