Why not build a inline 6 that way or an 8. That 4.8L I4 is huge! Now all the little rice boys will think there little 1.6L will make thounds of hp with more boost!

Biggrin So what?

With an unlimited budget you can get low ETs out of a battleship. Obviously the guys plan was to be totally different. It is a very good example of HOW MUCH technology is required to get power out of a 4 banger.
V8 anyone?

if any one of us had the tech to build a 4 banger the size of the empire state building, it would have 40000000 hp to!!!

no matter how you slice it, and I don't like 4 cylinders, it's still 1000 hp per cylinder, and close to 1000 hp per liter. !!!!! and close to 14hp per cubic inch.

kind of funny how the rules for the v8 are Sooo different then the 4 cyl.

The end of the article says it all. What happens if you take the blower away from what's essentially half a top fuel motor. Add turbo, lose the parasitic drag and voila, the turbo guys have more to brag about.

C'mon, 4000 HP? Where did they get that figure? I know it is all on paper, because no dyno can harness that power, right? "Another way to look at 4,000 hp is that the Max-4 is capable of lifting one ton straight upward 1,100 feet in a single second". That means the 2000 lb car (estimated) can do the 1440 in a little over a second.....That goes for the big boys too! Put that HP on a advertisement and everyone will come to see the "1.2 second" car...

well, 4000 hp would be a max power, not continous throught the rev range, seeing as how the engine must acelerate, and the gear changes, and traction and wind resistance, and.. and... and...

still, take 6000 hp for a top fuel motor and it can push a car in the 4 second range. with a 500 ci limit. getting just more then half the power out of more then half the engine? why would that be so unbelievable?

On paper it could lift that much. you still gotta get that power transferred 90 degrees to the ground and you lose alot of that "lifting power" in the transfer of power. Half of an Arias Hemi, huh? Put It back together I say and let me put it in my 57 Coronet. It may not do the 1320 in 2 seconds but the ride would still be a gas.

Oh Boy, I got to be there when they fire that one up. Ill be the one in the bomb dismantilers suit. LOL
Running a car on Nitro with Nitros injection to spool up the turbos? Oh baby can you say Kaaabbbboooom.
Lots of interesting research from those Batten boys. They are always building some kind of experimental motor that you never hear about again. I like some of the ideas, Top Fuel used to be able to run turbos but NHRA took that away a long time ago or we would see a lot more info by now. Same with overhead cams, different types of superchargers ect.
The only part I dont like is putting an inport body on this car. Every ricer in the world will jump on this one and start telling me how fast a type R is. Kinda like how John Force's Ford Mustang is one bad Hot Rod. Everyone forgets it has a Hemi in it.
