I SENT THIS TO HOOKER:
HELLO I AM WONDERING IF YOU WOULD KNOW IF HOOKER PART#5209-1 (2 INCH PRIMARY 3.5 INCH COLLECTOR) WILL WORK ON A LOW DECK BIG BLOCK MOPAR (383/400) IN A B BODY CAR (70 PLYMOUTH) WITH INDY SR HEADS? I BOUGHT A SET LAST YEAR TO USE ON MY CURENT SETUP (400 BLOCK WITH 440 CRANK). I HAD TO MODIFY THEM SLIGHTLY TO CLEAR THE STEERING LINKAGE BECAUSE THOSE HEADERS ARE MADE TO WORK ON A TALL DECK (440). NOW I AM PUTING THE INDY HEADS ON THAT MOTOR AND HOPEFULLY I CAN REUSE THE HEADERS. I KNOW THAT THE INDY HEADS RAISE EVERYTHING UP ABOUT 3/8" SO I WOULD THINK THAT WOULD HELP BUT I HAVE HEARD THAT GUYS HAVE HAD BIG PROBLEMS WITH THIS SET-UP ON A 440 ( TALLER MOTOR). ANY THING THAT YOU GUYS KNOW WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THIS IS THE RESPONSE: We do not make a header that will fit with those Indy heads. You would be better off getting a set of custom made headers. thanks, Chris HOW CAN THAT BE ARE THEY SAYING THAT THOSE HEADERS WONT WORK AT ALL? I DONT GET IT? |

The headers will fit the low deck with a little bit of bending. SR heads on a low deck put the ports about the same height as a RB with stock heads, maybe a little wider. A friend used them in a '71 Cuda, 400 block and SR heads. No they do not fit my '69 GTX with the 440 block.
