Default MP oil pump shaft

I just put one of these in my car. It should have been a 30min job but turned into a 3hour job.You must have to hand fit the hex shaft to the pump as mine got stuck in the pump and I had to make a puller to get the dam thing out and stone the hex part (again) to get it to bottom on the bushing. Thanks for letting me vent some. Its in and working fine now.

Sorry to hear of this problem. I have never heard of someone having such a difficult time. But, I guess it's bond to happen sometime. It happens to me as well. Theres allways something not going together right or not machined right or part shiped wrong. Theres allways something. Hand tight. You'll get over it and past it. Then smile and laff on it in the future.

Yep, It happens to everyone that are in this hobby(obsession).
And when its a perfomance part, and they tell you its "bolt on" that just means that's the last thing you do to it before it works!!!

Sounds similar to my bolt on "lightweight race starter" for my BB. It is light all right but it will not "bolt on" untill you spend several hours with a die grinder on the boss around that last freeze plug. Not the handiest place on the engine to get to, plus you don't want to take off more than is absolutely necessary. Such is life in the far far west!

Jelsr; you shouldn't have too grind the block, just the body of the starter. 5 minutes did it on the starter for my 440. What kind of starter did you buy?....djs

djswwg,
It's the latest one from MP. The previous one was about 3/4" or so longer and the lug section for the battery cable sits ahead of the freeze plug boss. On this one the lug section is centered on the joint of the boss and freeze plug. Had to grind the boss and the plug lip both. Even cut the insulating material around the lug area down some. Must of had that thing on and off a bazillion times and said "golly gee whiz" at least twice.

We have had our problems with the starters this year. Got our new converter from Coan and the ears were welded on to far foward. Chewed up 3 stock starters within 2mins after it was started. Had to go buy a mini for it to work. I look at problems like this as learning expirences.
