Thumbs up

Hey guys,

Anyone have any Idea how to mount one of these puppies in an A-body? What I really need to know is the distance from the front of the trans case to the trans mount, comparing an A904 to an A518. If they are pretty close, you could possibly turn the crossmember around (using a '73 and Up spool type A-body crossmember) and massage the tranny tunnel and the mount a little, and Also Shorten the driveshaft? I run an A904 Right now behind a 318, and I want to go up in gearing without sacrificing gas mileage.

The 518 trany is a little longer, so you will have to shorten the drive shaft. Externaly, they look like a 727, but the tail shaft has a boulge for the O.D. The rear mount does set back a little farther(I have one a my dads, and I have a couple of 727's). I take some measurments for you this weekend and post them so you know.

While we are on the subject, how do you wire one of these 518's up? I think i still have the connector, but I haven't looked at the thing since I got it in a trade for some other stuff. My tranny came out of a 1990 truck. Anything special I need to know?

Mopar Muscle ran a series of articles a couple of years ago about the 518, including dimensions and wiring. I think the '90 model just has wiring to engage OD only because if memory serves, that is not a lock up tranny that year. DBDARTMAN, who moderates on the Moparts board, did the 518 into an A body swap, so he might be a good source of information.
