To float or not to float?
I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me why or why not someone would want full floating wrist pins? Full floating sounds like it would reduce friction but that is the extent of my knowlege in this area, if some one could shead some light it would be greatly appreciated
While i am in here i wouldn't mind if someone could recomened a quality piston that would be able to handle a 150 shoot of nos every once in a while(Ross, JE, etc????). The pistons will go in a 440 with approx 500-550 horse normally aspirated, looking for about 10-1 compresson with 88cc heads, stock stroke. Thanks for any help in advance mike |

Full floaters supposedly reduce the friction. What is better about them is you dont have to press the pin out, they just slide out when you remove the spiralock or circlip. A nice feature at 2 in the morning before race day.

It has been said that JE had the best nos piston out. But now everyone is switching to Ross. I think the JE's are a little bit cheaper. 150 hp shot isnt a hole lot so I think eighter one would be good for you. Just make sure the nos system is done right and you wont have any problems.
I think all the mopars came stock with the full floaters did they not? I also use these in my go cart motors. I just use them because of the easy instaltion of the piston to the rod. |

Depending on the year of the engine. My 360 is pressed. As well as my ol'318.

Thanks for the info guys.
One other question i hope someone can help me with is about pistons in general. Does anyone have an idea of how much longer a 5/64 lasts as compared to a 1/16 top ring, under the same conditions? thanks mike |

Use the larger ring for everything but race. The life of the ring will be longer, but, it's seal will/should be better over the long haul.
The ring should fit the piston reguardless of what you use. It won't really make a big diff. IMO. |
