Question 2003 diesel?

Anyone know what the 2003 diesel is going to be? I heard a 300hp Cummins. Sounds good to me. I hope they fix the weak transmissions as well as the transfer pumps I am getting tired of replacing them.

www.car-truck.com had an article a while ago. They reported 300 hp. Also will have an EGR to meet new emission standards.

I think they upgraded the transmission, but haven't we heard that before.

One strong rumor running around a local plant that's getting ready to build the new 3/4 and 1 ton trucks is that they're expecting some mercedes diesels as well as the new cummins. The mb diesels are supposedly rated at 350 hp. No torque numbers available.
Just rumors though... Don't kill the messenger.

Default diesel

our local tech rep was saying that 03 diesel with have common rail injectors for more power and less engine noise. he also stated that he was told that they will be using the alison. but he heard that rummer on the trans when they turned the cummins into an h.o. for 01.

Thumbs down

The trucks we have at work do not the allison trans. what we hear is maybe 2004 or 2005 if they use the allison at all. when I worked in impact dept,we had a few 3500's with allisons. they were sent back to Jeep-truck eng. and had the tranys pulled and replaced with stock trans.

From what I hear, the new Common rail 5.9 will have a Holset Variable Geometry Turbo, the timing gear will be on the firewall side of the engine and the block will be even thicker/heavier. The pilot injection capability of the Bosch Common Rail injection should quiet the engine down along with the heavier block.
The part that truly intrigues me is the VG Turbo; will it be air actuated? if so we'll get factory installed onboard air...hmmm air lockers, impact wrenches, tires..keg taps?
or electrically actuated? scary.
Wonder who will be the first to BOMB a VGT?

go check out www.car-truck.com , the BUZZ section look for 2500/3500 Rams, page two is where the diesel info is. This site is the definitive DC info site. According to them, there are two Cummins offered standard output and high output. He has been reporting this for over two months, it was just confirmed in the release today.

or

www.pickuptruck.com and go to the link on the page under the Chicago Auto Show. The new rams were unveiled there today.

or

www.autoweek.com and look for the same kind of link to the Chicago Auto Show coverage
