413/31th is the same thing in and of it's self it is a 3 speed trans used in frt whl drv veh

Im no expert, but i would first start off GETTING the MP FWD perfomance book p5429585!! Know what and why BEFORE you do it.

Next get a simple shift kit(p4529093after '86, p4529092 before '86). For durablilty, add an inline trans filter into the return cooler line. Too much crap flyin in the pan around can stick the govenor valve in one gear, preventing the trans from shifting 'till you tear it down and clean it out! Real suckville!

if you need more shift rpm try swaping in neon gov weights and valve. There are surgrips, different final drive ratios, ect,,,

670 were only in 3.0ls. the guts are the same but much stronger. many high hp turbo guys take 670 guts and stick them in thier 413 cases.
